La Jolla Hard Rock Cafe

The La Jolla Hard Rock Cafe will be closing down later this year, so I thought I would post one more photo from there in rememberance.

San Diego!

Tom and I had a fabulous vacation in sunny San Diego, where we celebrated both of our February birthdays and our 25th wedding anniversary which was on Valentines Day. The weather was spectacular all week, so we spent most of the time on the beach soaking in the rays. A few highlights of our trip included walking all over Pacific, Ocean, Mission, Imperial, Coronado and La Jolla Beaches, going to the world famous zoo, having amazing Mexican meals in Old Town and cocktails at both Hard Rock Cafes, shopping in La Jolla, and going to the art museums at Balboa Park. There is so much to do in that city, and I can't wait to go back and do it all again!

Election Night 2007

The election night was a really fun one this year. Our close friend Dan Satterberg was running for Prosecuting Attorney for King County, which covers Seattle and the surrounding areas. Besides working as the Chief of Staff for the Prosecutors office for 18 years, Dan has played bass guitar in Tom's band since Jr. High in the mid-70's. He wanted to rock the night away with his friends, so he booked the band into an Irish Pub in our old neighborhood and invited everyone to come party. The place was packed, and was swarming with TV cameras and press people. It was a fun celebration, and Dan led the race by a large margin all night long. As the results were periodically announced on the newscasts, the band was featured jamming in the background. It was a great bash!

Congratulations on the big win Dan!!!

Eastern Washington

Tom and I just had a fun vacation in Eastern Washington. We're both from Seattle, but it's pretty rare that we travel to the hot dry Eastern side of our state. After a few weeks of cool damp weather, dry heat sounded great, and it was! We drove a loop starting in Leavenworth, then up to Sun Mountain near Winthrop, over to Spokane, down to Walla Walla and finally ended up in the center of wine and hop country in Yakima Valley. We sampled many fine hoppy IPAs and visited vineyards and wineries along the way. It was a very relaxing trip!

Here are a few photos I took.

Summer of Love 40th Anniversary Festival

Yesterday I went to the Festival of the River in Arlington, Washington and watched a bunch of San Francisco bands celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love. It was a great lineup of acts who all had played at Monterey Pop in 1967. The bands were Jefferson Starship, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Quicksilver Messenger Service, It's a Beautiful Day, and Tom Constanten from the Grateful Dead.

The really cool thing about the festival was it was hosted by the Stillaguamish Indians, and it was all free! For cheap, you could buy an incredible salmon meal with fresh corn on the cob, delicious watermelon, bread and pop. There was no alcohol at the festival, and as far as I could see, no drugs. It was a super mellow scene, and we had a really fun time!

Here are some photos that I took of the bands.
